Sharman King

Sharman King is an active performing professional musician, educator and volunteer. He is currently bass trombonist of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and was previously bass trombonist of both the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the CBC Vancouver Orchestra. Mr. King was a member of the famed Buddy Rich Orchestra and has been privileged to perform with hundreds of singers including Diana Krall, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Paul Anka, Jack Jones, Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Burt Bacharach and Luciano Pavarotti. He has appeared in over three hundred television programs in international distribution.

For 32 years Mr. King was CEO of the Book Warehouse group, overseeing its steady growth to become a dominant bookseller in the Greater Vancouver area. Book Warehouse established enduring and beneficial promotional relationships with many Vancouver arts organizations, including The Cultch, Vancouver Playhouse, Vancouver Opera, MusicFest Vancouver, The Vancouver Readers and Writers Festival, Bard on the Beach and many others.

He is active as a board member of Downtown Vancouver Association, Performing Arts Lodge Vancouver, Canadian Music Centre, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, UBC Library Advisory Committee, The City of Vancouver Arts and Culture Policy Council, BC Book Prizes and EasyPark. He is also the elected Vice-President of the Vancouver Musicians’ Association and is a member of the Vancouver Opera Audit Committee.
