DEB HUNT
Library Director
& Principal, Information Edge
Mechanics' Institute

For 16 of the past 20 years, Deb has zigged and zagged in and out of libraries, pursuing parallel careers in digital asset management, knowledge management and beyond. She recently returned to libraryland as Library Director at the Mechanics’ Institute (www.milibrary.org), a general interest membership library, cultural event center, and chess club located in a 9-story landmark building in the Financial District of San Francisco. Founded in 1854 to serve the educational and social needs of mechanics — artisans, craftsmen, and inventors, the Institute today is a favorite of avid readers, writers, downtown employees, students, film lovers, chess players, and the 21st century nomadic worker in search of a place for literary pursuits, thinking, research and study.

Deb is also Principal of Information Edge, www.information-edge.com, which specializes in enterprise, document and digital asset management, knowledge services, research and analysis, and library design and automation. In addition to her MLS, Deb is a certified Enterprise Content Management Practitioner and believes that learning never stops.

Deb is the co-author of The Librarian’s Skillbook: 51 Essential Career Skills for Information Professionals (http://www.librarianskillbook.com/). She is also co-presenting through several associations and organizations “Expanding Your Career Potential”, a multi-part webinar series that has been very successful in North America and beyond.

Deb is SLA’s 2014 Past President. She is a member of the Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) and AIIM.org. She has authored numerous articles, presented at many conferences, and has received several professional awards.
